That is why, to make the city liveable, measures that will solve the traffic problem need to be taken first. Foremost among those measures is running public transport vehicles and shuttle vehicles in an orderly, systematic way.

The rules and standards introduced for shuttle drivers are applied so that the shuttle service works properly. The documents required to become a shuttle driver are the first of the standards introduced to that end.

Shuttle driver salaries and the documents required to become a shuttle driver are among the most important topics for drivers who want to work in employee shuttle, school shuttle or tourism shuttle services.

Read on for up-to-date information for 2019 and 2020 on shuttle driver salaries and the documents required to become a shuttle driver.

What Are the Requirements to Become a Shuttle Driver? 2019–2020 Update

Drivers working in different sectors have different sector-specific requirements to meet. Let us start with the rules set out in the regulations for school shuttle drivers.

Criteria for Becoming a School Shuttle Driver

  • Being over 26 and under 66 years of age
  • Not having committed offences against the security of the state or the constitutional order — regardless of any amnesty — not having been convicted of offences such as abuse of trust, theft or fraud, and having no ongoing prosecutions in respect of such offences
  • Not having committed offences such as intentional homicide, abuse, or possession or sale of narcotics, and having no prosecutions in respect of such matters
  • Having held a driving licence for at least 5 years for a class D licence, and at least 7 years for a class D1 licence
  • Having obtained a report from a family physician confirming fitness to work as a shuttle driver
  • Obtaining a report from authorised bodies showing psychotechnical fitness for the occupation of shuttle driver
  • Not having been involved in fatal traffic accidents through conscious negligence in the last 5 years
  • Not having had a driving licence withdrawn more than once for reasons such as drink-driving or exceeding the speed limit
  • Having obtained the Domestic Passenger Transport Driver Vocational Qualification Certificate
  • Holding a vocational qualification certificate

Requirements for Becoming an Employee Shuttle Driver — 2019–2020 Update

The requirements for becoming an employee shuttle driver run parallel to those for becoming a school shuttle driver. People wishing to become an employee shuttle driver must likewise not have been convicted of the offences listed above, nor be subject to any prosecution in respect of them.

Alongside this — and applying to school shuttles as well — people wishing to work as an employee shuttle driver must also meet the following requirements:

  • Holding a psychotechnical report
  • Having held a driving licence for at least 5 years for a class D licence, and at least 7 years for a class D1 licence
  • Having obtained a report from a family physician confirming fitness to work as a shuttle driver
  • Having obtained the Domestic Passenger Transport Driver Vocational Qualification Certificate
  • Holding a vocational qualification certificate

Because of the negative incidents and the rise in accidents seen in recent years, drink-driving and excessive speeding will no longer be tolerated under any circumstances. Alongside this, a requirement to be at least 30 years old to become a shuttle driver is expected to be introduced shortly.

It is also envisaged that the requirement to have held a class E licence for 3 years in order to become a shuttle driver will rise to 12 years, and that the requirement for a class B licence will rise from 5 years to 7 years.
