Where is a vehicle tracking system fitted?

When the device is installed, a spot is chosen that cannot be seen directly by eye and is hard to reach. Such places include inside the glovebox, the steering column housing, or the cavity inside the front console. Locations with a constant power supply are generally preferred for installation, as this is necessary in order to see whether the vehicle is switched off, parked or idling. It takes teams an average of 25 to 30 minutes to install a tracking system. These times can vary if additional parts or extra features are requested.

Which sensors does a vehicle tracking device contain? 

Tracking systems fitted to vehicles contain a number of sensors that provide real-time reporting. 

  • Fuel tank sensor: fuel levels can be monitored in real time and fuel theft can be prevented. 
  • Vehicle door sensor: vehicle doors can be controlled remotely, which allows early intervention particularly in the event of theft. 
  • Humidity and temperature sensors: these allow monitoring of vehicles used for food transport in particular. Temperature and humidity can also be adjusted remotely.
  • Impact sensors: these report accidents and impacts as they happen. There are also dedicated sensors to prevent misuse.
